Note‑Taking & Recording

Practical training in audio note-taking apps, live captioning tools, smartpens and recorders — helping you capture meetings and lectures and turn them into organised notes.

Separating listening from writing up

Trying to listen, contribute and write detailed notes at the same time is a common difficulty in meetings and lectures. Audio note-taking and captioning tools let you mark key moments while the conversation happens, then review the recording or transcript afterwards to produce a clear action list.

Each software package or device is taught in its own dedicated session (our standard booking is a three-hour half-day per package, and shorter sessions for an individual package are available on request), delivered remotely across the UK or on site by arrangement, with two weeks of follow-up support included with every training package.

What you'll practise

  • Recording, live captioning and tagging key moments during meetings or lectures
  • Reviewing transcripts and recordings to create clear summaries and action lists
  • Organising, syncing and exporting notes into Word, OneNote or PDF
  • Checking recording consent and organisational policies before capturing audio

Tools covered

  • Genio (formerly Glean): recording lectures and meetings alongside your own notes and slides, then turning them into notes you can revise or act on
  • Caption.Ed: live captions and transcripts for meetings and video calls, with notes to review afterwards

  • Livescribe smartpens (device): handwritten notes linked to an audio recording
  • Olympus and OM System voice recorders (device): recording lectures and meetings to review later
