For people using assistive technology, ChatGPT's most practical use is turning material that is hard to process into a structure you can read comfortably, or getting a rough first draft on the page so you are editing rather than staring at a blank screen. A dense policy becomes a headed bullet list; a rough set of spoken notes becomes a tidy email draft.

Two golden rules apply to every session: never paste confidential, client or personal data into an unapproved personal account, and always verify dates, figures, citations and policy details against the original source, because AI models can state incorrect facts confidently.

• Let the answer finish before reading it. Replies stream onto the screen a few words at a time, which can cause some screen readers to re-announce the growing paragraph. Press Ctrl to silence speech while it generates, then read the completed reply using heading navigation.
• Ask for headings in the reply. Including "Use H2 and H3 headings for each section" in your prompt usually produces real HTML headings in the response. On Windows, use H with JAWS's Virtual PC Cursor, NVDA Browse mode or Narrator Scan Mode. On Mac, use H with VoiceOver Single-Key Quick Nav, or use the Web Rotor's Headings list. On iPhone or iPad, choose Headings with the Rotor and swipe up or down. If a response uses bold text instead of a semantic heading, use arrow keys or copy the reply into Word.
• Use the Copy button at the end of a reply. Each response has a Copy button underneath it so you can paste the text cleanly into Word or Notepad and read it with your normal editing shortcuts.
• Ask for lists instead of complex tables. Wide comparison tables can be tiring to navigate cell by cell; asking ChatGPT to present comparisons as headed bullet lists is often much faster to read.

• It sounds confident and is wrong. ChatGPT predicts plausible wording rather than checking facts. Ground important summaries in material you provide and verify any facts, figures or citations against the source.
• It rewrites your voice into generic corporate jargon. Ask it to "Fix only spelling and grammar, and keep my original wording and sentence length."
• Long threads become slow to navigate. Start a new chat for each separate topic so your heading list stays short and relevant.
• Image descriptions miss detail. When uploading an image or chart (on supported plans), ask specifically: "Describe the layout and transcribe all visible text verbatim."

1. Open a new chat in ChatGPT using non-sensitive text (such as a public webpage article or three rough bullet points about your week).
2. Type or dictate: "Turn these notes into a clear three-section summary in UK English using H2 headings and short bullet points."
3. Wait for the response to finish generating, then navigate through the sections using your heading key in browse mode (or read the structure visually).
4. Use the Copy button below the reply to paste it into Word or Notepad and edit one sentence into your own words.
