Quick Start

Understanding the Narrator key: Throughout this guide, you'll see references to the "Narrator" key (the Narrator modifier key). By default, this is Caps Lock or Insert. When you see "Narrator+R", you hold down Caps Lock (or Insert) and press R.

Start Narrator with Windows+Ctrl+Enter - it's built into Windows 10 and 11. Press Narrator+R to start reading continuously from the current position. Use H to jump between headings on web pages for quick navigation (H moves you to the next heading element, helping you quickly understand page structure). Press Narrator+F4 to get a list of all links on the current page. The Narrator key is Caps Lock or Insert by default.

Getting Started

Web Navigation

Understanding web navigation: The single-letter commands (H for headings, K for links, F for form fields) allow you to jump directly to specific types of elements on web pages. This is much faster than reading the entire page linearly.

  1. Ensure scan mode is on for web browsing
  2. Press H to jump to the next heading, or Shift+H for previous
  3. Use number keys 1-6 to jump to specific heading levels (1 for h1, 2 for h2, etc.)
  4. Press K to move between links, Shift+K for previous
  5. Use F to navigate form fields, Shift+F for previous
  6. Press Narrator+F4 for a list of all links on the page
  7. Press Narrator+F5 for a list of all headings
  8. Use B to jump between buttons

Using Lists and Navigation

  1. Press Narrator+F4 to open the links list
  2. Press Narrator+F5 to open the headings list
  3. Press Narrator+F6 to open the landmarks list
  4. Press Narrator+F7 to open the form fields list
  5. Use arrow keys to navigate within lists, Enter to select

Text Selection and Editing

  1. In scan mode, use Shift+Arrow keys to select text

  4. Copy selected text with Ctrl+C
